2004 Albums of the Year

Amber Digby - Music from the Honky Tonks$32.00Amber Digby - Music from the Honky Tonks
A great vocalist but equal billing should be given to fiddler Bobby Flores and steel guitar man Dickey Overby. There interplay is just about perfect. She includes some classic country covers with originals. Shame the cover is a tad ordinary but as a wise man once said "You can't judge a book by its cover". A must.
Jack Clement - Guess Things Happen That Way$32.00Jack Clement - Guess Things Happen That Way
Second album ever by a man who has been in the business 50 years. Obviously perfection takes time! There is a story involving Jaroslav Drobny a Czech tennis player of the 50s (who won Wimbledon) who was taken out for his first ever game of golf. On the first hole he played he scored a hole in one. What he did then was pretty amazing. He picked up his bag and headed off the course never to play again. He had achieved the impossible. Total and absolute perfection. I always like to relate that story when I spoke about Jack's debut album. A similar level of perfection to Drobny. With this album Jack has in effect aced the second.
Woodys - Telluride to Tennessee$32.00Woodys - Telluride to Tennessee
Wonderful wonderful harmonies, reminiscent of the Everly Brothers, with a set of Gram Parsons inspired songs of the highest order. Released only on Rocade Records from Switzerland. Guests include Chris Hillman & Herb Pederson.
Darrell McCall - Old Memories & Wine$32.00Darrell McCall - Old Memories & Wine
A terrific Ray Price inspired singer with first album in a couple of years. As a special treat his wife Mona contributes a couple of inspired vocals, on the Harlan Howard classic "Deepening Snow" and the classic "French Song".
Unbroken Circle: The Musical heritage of the Carter Family$32.00Unbroken Circle: The Musical heritage of the Carter Family
Sad to hear Johnny Cash's last ever recording....grand to hear Emmylou with the Peasall Sisters....amazing to hear Joe & Janette Carter. And that is not to mention the unlikely combination of Kris Kristofferson and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Justin Trevino - Too Many Heartaches$32.00
Has delivered every album and this is no exception. His production skills get better every time. Classic shuffle based Texas honky tonk music.
Touch My Heart: Johnny Paycheck Tribute$32.00Touch My Heart: Johnny Paycheck Tribute
2004 maybe the year of the Tribute album. We had many and they were all darn good. Dallas Wayne is grand here and even Neko Case gets plaudits (definitely a first!). Features a wide range of artists from Hank III to George Jones.
Billy Yates - Anywhere But Nashville$32.00Billy Yates - Anywhere But Nashville
What comes first...a great singer or a great song? Both are of the highest order here. 16 songs.
Mark Chesnutt - Savin' the Honky Tonk$33.00Mark Chesnutt - Savin' the Honky Tonk
The cover was inspired by Waylon's "Honky Tonk Heroes" album and that is what we get undiluted honky tonk singing from one of the best ever.
Ed Burleson - Cold Hard Truth$32.00Ed Burleson - Cold Hard Truth
Supposedly has a chip as big as Texas on his shoulder. The talent balances it out.
